She Hate Me
Starring: Anthony Mackie, Kerry Washington, Dania Ramirez, Ellen Barkin, Monica Bellucci
Directed by: Spike Lee
2004 Drama
When a Spike Lee film doesn't fly, it sinks like a stone. This one is Gibraltar. Anthony Mackie plays Jack, a Harvard man who is fired from his biotech corp for blowing the whistle on his scum boss (Woody Harrelson). For cash, Jack impregnates lesbians at $10,000 a pop. Jack's sperm isn't inseminated. He pops Viagra and screws them all. That these women would have unprotected sex with Jack is offensive on too many levels to go into. Lee connects Jack's plight to that of Frank Wills, the black security guard who discovered the Watergate break-in and died dirt-poor. "I am Frank Wills," Jack says. I am amazed that this incoherent jab at America's moral bankruptcy comes from the feisty talent behind Do the Right Thing. This time he didn't.
