This forgotten 1971 road movie answers an eternal question: What if French existentialist Albert Camus had come to America and made a car-chase movie? Barry Newman's Kowalski is a car deliverer wanted by the law -- "the last beautiful free soul on the planet," as described by the blind, black radio DJ Super Soul (Cleavon Little), who aids him via the airwaves. In a time when vacant retreads such as The Fast and the Furious are the problem, Vanishing Point is the answer.
