Featuring electric-guitar virtuosos Joe Satriani, Steve Vai and Yngwie Malmsteen, the G3 tour has the atmosphere of a sporting competition rather than a musical event, with expression of technique trumping expression of feeling. True believers get their money's worth of fretboard transcendence and male-bonding ritual, but skeptics will wonder how Malmsteen could so completely miss the point of "Voodoo Chile (Slight Return)."
