The Crimson Rivers, featuring more mutilated, rotting corpses than Seven, is a grisly serial-killer thriller set around a private school in the French Alps. Whodunit? Who cares? Faced with a convoluted plot, director Mathieu Kassovitz (Hate) wisely focuses his attention on the film's two magnetic stars: the hypnotically hangdog Jean Reno as a veteran cop, and the wittily nutso Vincent Cassel as his younger counterpart. They will grab you even when the film merely makes you gag.
