Saving Silverman
Starring: Jack Black, Amanda Peet
Directed by: Dennis Dugan
2001 Comedy
"Saving Silverman," directed by Dennis Dugan, calls on the services of comic zanies Jack Black ("High Fidelity") and Steve Zahn ("Happy, Texas"), who labor to resuscitate this wimpy, winded farce about two buds who conspire to save their friend, Darren Silverman (Jason Biggs), from a fate worse than death. That would be marrying Judith (Amanda Peet), a bitch queen with a tongue as spiky as her high heels. Peet is always worth watching, but the role does her no favors, and the script, involving a kidnapping and a surprise cameo by Neil Diamond - you heard me - smacks of desperation beyond saving.
