Pretty Funny 3/4 Stars.
This is a very funny movie from the comedic masters Mel Brooks, Buck Henry, and director Peter Segal (longest yard, anger management). This movie is based on the 1960's TV series, by the same movie title. Instead of Don Adams this time it's Steve Carell and from the first scene of the movie he was born to play Maxwell Smart. Maxwell Smart is part of an agency CONTROL, and before coming an agent he was there best analyst. Max desprately wants to become an agent, and he also has taken the agent test seven times and has not been able to pass. But after his 8th try Max finally passes, and the chief (Alan Arkin) promotes him and max eventually becomes an agent (Agent 86). When successfully becoming an agent he gets teamed up to take on a case with agent 99 (Anne Hathaway). Who is one of the best agents for CONTROL. Who had to change her identity after a mission, because she had a intimate relationship with another agent Agent 23 (Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson). Max and Agent 99 have to stop KOAS from blowing up a music hall where the president is watching a play. There are many giggles and clever one liners in Get Smart, but the only problem I had with this movie is that I thought some of the scenes with Agent 99 and Max were a bit forced and corney. But Steve Carell was hilarious as Maxwell Smart (Which I expected going in), and Anne Hathaway does some solid work here too. Dwayne Johnson has a smaller role and does fine, and Alan Arkin brings good presence to the film as The Chief. A very well esembled cast brings a pretty funny movie from the masters themselves Mel Brooks and Buck Henry.

"Don't miss it by this _____________________________________________"
Funnyman Steve Carell loosens up a bit in the tv adapted film GET SMART. He stars as Maxwell Smart, and stays true to the original actor Don Adams 60s acting. Max wants to be an ag...(read more) ent in CONTROL, a high tech agency that is top of line, and in no comparison to the CIA. Max can not even pass an agent exam, but he knows deep inside he can be the agent that can put CONTROL in "control". He is clowned on by his CONTROL peers, who often refer to him as Maxine or even worse "Maxi-Pad" haha. His chief is not impressed, and feels that he is not ready for the tough world of an agent. Agent 23 is the favorite for top missions, and Max is very envious to his good looks, charm, wit, agent tactics, and damn near everything else. During a night out with his boys playing paintball, Max returns to CONTROL to find their building completely trashed. Upon the awful news, Max encounters an agent he admires Agent 99, who uses creative disguises to achieve her missions. Chief sees how Max is getting better as far as being a agent goes, and decides to give him a claim to fame. Their main mission is to defeat KAOS, the evil crime lords who want full control of everything in sight. Max and Agent 99 team up, and despite Max's bumbles, and stumbles, he proves what being an agent is all about through efficient technical gadgets, and a wise philosophy to KAOS dirty tricks. However after a mission gone wrong, Max's agency puts him right back on the chopping block, only instead of just revoking his top agency rights; they put him in solitary confinement. Too bad, his agency just does not know that Max is smarter than the average bear. Max must get back to Agent 99, save the world, and be back for dinner before sundown(I'm kidding), but his time is limited. His task becomes, even more risque, because a "double agent" is afoot, silly CONTROL thought Max was the "rat", what a shame. It is up to Maxwell Smart, the bumbling, stumbling, unfortunate action hero to stop KAOS, and put CONTROL back in "control". I loved GET SMART, Steve Carell was a picture perfect pick for Maxwell Smart, his acting was Grade A, humor was "spot on", and move over "bond" we have new action hero and his name is Maxwell Smart. This film also showed Steve has some versatility, and has a bright future ahead. Anne Hathaway was not only beautiful, she could act her pants off as Agent 99, and was very charismatic. The supporting cast with Dwayne Johnson as Agent 23, Alan Arkin as "chief", and many other great actors made this film even more amusing. Personally, there were no flaws, the script was clever, the direction was a pleasure, and unlike most tv adapted films, this one blended all the elements between romance, action, and comedy to perfection. This is the surprise film of the year, and one the top ten on my list, and if you "miss it by this______________________" you need to GET SMART and get to the theater, because it is worth the ticket

Carell is great. He is the main piece on the movie, although it has some very good secundary characters like 99 and the Chief. But,I really felt that the main villain siegfried isn't very good. The movie gives a lot of good laughs, the airplane scene is the best one.

I can't believe how many bad reviews this movie has gotten. It was great. My 10 year old son and I were laughing like crazy. Forget those dumb reviews and give the movie a chance.
