One of the things you can do when you are a rich rock star on hiatus is make strange, sweetly earnest movies such as this one.
Directed by Phish's Mike Gordon, Rising Low ostensibly documents the making of Gov't Mule's The Deep-End, an album recorded after that band's bass player, Allen Woody, died unexpectedly. In tribute, the surviving Mules recruited an all-star bass lineup (Flea, John Entwistle, Bootsy Collins, Gordon himself) to sit in. But the movie is less about the recording process than it is about the mysteries of the bass guitar.
