Like Hayao Miyazaki's previous masterworks, Spirited Away and Princess Mononoke, this Oscar-nominated Japanese animation wanders into seriously trippy territory: A witch turns a shy teenage girl into an old hag who encounters a wizard living in a castle that walks with giant chicken feet. With an English-language cast that includes Christian Bale, Billy Crystal and Lauren Bacall, this relentlessly imaginative anime is recommended for kids, parents and acidheads.
