Apocalypto
Starring: Mauricio Amuy Tenorio, Raoul Trujillo, Mayra Serbulo, Dalia Hernandez, Gerardo Taracena
Directed by: Mel Gibson
2006 Buena Vista Action
The plot, cooked up by Gibson and Farhad Safinia, focuses on Jaguar Paw (Rudy Youngblood), a braveheart if ever there was one. Even women and children are killed when his village is attacked by another tribe. After hiding his pregnant wife and young son in a cave, Jaguar goes on the run experiencing adventures that would give Indiana Jones the screaming meemies. The movie flies by fast enough to cause whiplash. Youngblood, 25, is a Comanche and Cree Indian from Texas, and he holds the screen every treacherous inch of the way, suffering penitential hardships from spears, snakes and tribal rulers intent on removing his heart while it's still beating.
This being Gibson, there's more to the film than the rush. It's impossible not to see parallels to our own cultured civilization, one that knowingly destroys its environment and sends troops to Iraq as human sacrifices. Gibson has made a film of blunt provocation and bruising beauty -- it's breathtaking to watch a jaguar racing in the jungle alongside the man who is named after the beast. Say what you will about Gibson, he's a filmmaker right down to his nerve endings.

Wow, after watching that movie I had to hop on the internet to find out more about it. I had watched it twice in a row and im still raving about it. I dont know how i did not hear about this movie i guess mel got all drunk and started making fun of jews but who cares this movie is awesome. Without a lick of english I was a bit skeptical but as all the reviews will say when the 2 hours and ten minutes is up im checking to see when the second one is coming out which I really hope happens you just wanna see if the kid can restart his proud tribe and find that new begining he and his wife seek. Especially when you see the three ships at the end you wonder if hell is about to strike again. Mr. Youngblood did more than great in this role. IDK about you but there is still a couple of questions I have that werent answered directly by the movie. 1)What happened to all those kids when their parents were taken to hell times ten. They probably died. 2)After Jaguar Paw kills that SOB'S Son and your just sitting there with a smile, All the main guys chase him. What about the other 20 to 30 guys that were waiting to play dodge the arrow and huge boulders coming to end your life. O yeah and if you do make it through the arrows thers's a guy waiting to bash your face in with a huge blunt bat lookin thing.3)Would you guys just let a couple of guys hold your arm down while they are about to tear out your heart decapitate you and throw your shit down a long ass flight of steps. I personally would try to throw who ever I could down those stairs and go out trying FUCK THAT!!! but neways just rambling love mel gibson movies it almost seems like he only makes classics when he really wants. You know those movies that you will find the world tivo'in and recording and buying tickets too.

I went to see the movie not knowing what to expect. I didn't see any previews no adds just the movie poster. When i came out the theater...I was speechless. This is one of the best movies I have ever seen period! If you are one of those people who watch a movie and really pay attention to detail then this is the movie for you. The cast was excellent. Every character was perfect for there particular role, you really get a feel for the characters and there personalities. From an art stand point I was mesmerized by the photography, make-up, costumes, and all the visual affects. As far as suspense it is a pure adrenaline rush!! I felt like i was part of the movie as if I was being captured, marching to an unknown place to be sacrificed, and chased through out the jungle fighting for my life. There is not a dull moment in the film every scene has a purpose if you pay attention. Mel displays many different core values in the scenes such as wisdom, brotherhood, loyalty, kindship, love, power, guilt, fear, terror, leadership, authority and many other values. Mel Gibson is a genius, the best at what he does. I give the film a 10 out of 10

I have to say that this movie was very thrilling and fun to watch. However, at points it was a bit ridiculous. In reality, how could the pursuers ever find him in that dense forest? He gets a huge head start on them, but they catch up and find him. He loses them multiple times, but they always catch up. All he had to do was turn and start running in a different direction. There is no way they would find him once, never mind multiple times. And how does he run from the jaguar? A jaguar could catch up to a human in about three seconds. And at the end, when the Spanish come, that is totally historically inaccurate. The collapse of the Mayans had nothing to do with the Spanish. The Mayan Civilization was gone long before the Spanish arrived. There are more dumb things about the movie. Why would you shoot the guy in the neck with the blow gun, give away your position, and have to take on the rest of them, when you could just hide there and not have to fight any of them? At the beginning of the chase, when he is zig-zagging, how could the guys actually hit him with an arrow? The chances of that are so slim. All he has to do is turn around and look at where the arrows are coming from, and dodge them. The guys shooting were so far away. Lots of dumb things, but entertaining. Not an oscar contender.

The visual effect of this movie is just outstanding. I was transported into another world. But regretfully the ideas are almost directly borrowed from the famous movie "The Naked Prey".If you have not seen the aforementioned, then you surely will like this movie. But it was predictable, even the snake bite was borrowed from the "Naked Prey". The movie´s ending is also historically imbalanced. But it is a great movie becasue you rarely see a movie about he Mayans and their great history. Do not miss this one!
