Hailed in 1982 as Hollywood's first attempt to sympathetically depict gay life, this superficially groundbreaking but ultimately stodgy melodrama is worsened by stilted acting from Kate Jackson and other TV perennials. A shoddy DVD lacks the extras that could've framed this fascinating, well-intentioned flop in its complex historical context.
