David Lynch's famously slow and surreal feature debut gets a startlingly pristine DVD transfer that should pleasantly shock fans who encountered Jack Nance's sky-high hairdo, the Lady in the Radiator and "the baby" when this black-and-white 1977 oddity ruled the midnight-movie circuit via scratchy prints. During a bonus documentary, Lynch yammers on in exhaustive and dryly digressive minutiae about his abstract classic's belabored five-year creation, but he remains frustratingly mute about the meaning of it all.
