Schlock producers Menahem Golan and Yoram Globus notice the midnight-movie success of The Rocky Horror Picture Show and have a light-bulb moment: "Let's do our own cult musical! We'll take a naive boy and girl couple, tack on some pansexual camp, add derivative rock, pop and disco, film it in a 1980 Berlin standing in for 1994 America -- and shovel in heaps of Old Testament allegory!" (Yes, the movie is about that apple.) The end result is so top-to-bottom wrongheaded that it transcends mere stupidity to become an idiot-savant cinematic classic.
