In this final installment of George A. Romero's zombie trilogy (after Night of the Living Dead and Dawn of the Dead), mad scientists and troops not even Fox News could support hole up in an underground lab while the flesh-eaters close in. Day was to have been Romero's most ambitious zombie epic, but budget constraints, as described in a second-disc making-of featurette, cramped his vision. Still, Day featured an ass-kicking heroine a full year before Aliens, and some of the gore is made from actual human entrails.
