This documentary by David Leaf and John Scheinfeld succeeds as both a loving tribute and as a remarkable historical document. The film traces Lennon's transformation from artist into anti-war activist and then shows the U.S. government's reactionary response. If a man and a woman staging a "bed-in" for peace scared the bejesus out of the deeply strange duo of Richard Nixon and J. Edgar Hoover, one can't help but wonder how Bush and Cheney would respond today.

Being a huge Lennon fan it was great to come across this documentary. It shows what a great person this man is and how shady our Govn't is. By watching this movie you see how simaler the times of the Vietnam war our and this BS one we are in now. The Presidents speaches are the same (they say a whole lot but really don't say anything at all). John Lennon was a great man his life was takin way before he was supposed to leave us. I recommend that everyone should see this documentary whether you were a Lennon fan or not............

When it comes to anything about John Lennon,I am biased, guilty as charged.Lennon was and is my favorite artist of all time, and this documentary shows many reasons why.The movie reminds many long-time John fans of his great wit, courage, talent,of his sometimes angry persona, that he was also sometimes acompassionate humanitarian, etc. Some of the footage in this documentary can be seen on "Imagine:John Lennon","The Complete Beatles",and other films, but it also contains info that for one reason or another has been lost over time(I didn't know John Sinclair was released from prison the day after John and Yoko's appearance at a concert protesting his imprisonment, also didn't know Jerry Rubin was promising the world John would be in Miami for the '72 Republican convention, while Lennon feared for his safety and insisted he wouldn't be "jamming outside the convention hall).
There are lessons for the times we live in now that ring all too true today-how a paranoid U.S. administration will go to great links to snuff out freedom of speech.Nixon and his cronies wanted to shut Lennon up by harrassing him and deporting him,not too disimiliar from Dick Cheney's traitorous outing of Valerie Plame. Some things never change.Anyway this film is a must have for Lennon fans, and for those who want to know more about him,the sixties, and the foreboding meanness of the Nixonites that began with cases like Lennon's and ultimately ended in Watergate.
