"I'm gonna die," one weekend-warrior woman says as she descends into an abyss for a vacation spelunking in the Appalachians. She doesn't die at that moment, of course. But as she and five girlfriends delve deeper, they're confronted by a race of blind troglodytes with a jones for flesh. The frenetic pace and kick-ass action elevate this one above the average gorefest.

One reviewer wrote "The best horror film since ALIEN", and for once, the reviewers were right! Intense and scarry, well made, well directed and well acted! You can't even tell that it was shot on a set. Very effective with a great build up to the ending horror.

"Deliverance II" would be a more appropriate title for this
celebration of depravity and gore. The "chics with picks" can
sure rock climb, but the setting of Appalachia for genetic
throw-backs who lust for human flesh is presented as if the
geography somehow makes the scary developments make
perfect sense. Duh, hillbillies have regressed to cave
dwelling, cannabalisitc Neanderthals--like what do you
expect, man? Like the first Deliverance, however, a subtler
message about the depravity of modern, hip city dwellers is
also apparent. How long does it take our shiraz-sipping,
urban and super hip characters to descernd (get it) to the
level of the beasts so obviously primitive and violent? Not
long. A fun flick to rent with great how-they-done-it
accompaniments. I enjoyed the film but marvel at the deep
cultural prejudice about Appalachia still pervasive in 2007.
