Focusing on the anti-social extremes of the New York scene of the Seventies, director S.A. Crary uncovers footage of bands like Suicide and Teenage Jesus and the Jerks (whose Lydia Lunch deems her obsessions "beauty and truth and filth"), showing how No Wave rejected even three-chord punk as too traditional. But when the old-timers decry next-geners like the Yeah Yeah Yeahs as sellouts, the film begins to derail.
