The Rogers Sisters sound like the B-52's and the Clash getting into a drunken brawl in a Detroit liquor store parking lot, then having group sex with Gang of Four and Le Tigre in a Chevy van. It's a fearsome sound. Jen Rogers plays chop-and-scrape guitar riffs, Laura Rogers bangs the drums, and certified male Miyuki Furtado adds spazzy bass; everybody sings. The Brooklyn-via-Detroit trio's post-punk grooves come on like party starters, even when they're raging about bad jobs and dashed dreams. The Sisters always kick ass live, but The Invisible Deck is the first time they've managed to do justice to their tough, slippery, muscular sound in the studio. It was worth the wait, especially "Sooner or Later" and "The Clock," where their political anger boils over into charging rhythms. These Sisters will get you twisted.
