The Veronicas are twenty-year-old twin sisters from Brisbane, Australia, who had penned nearly sixty of their own songs by the time they signed a $2 million record deal last year. Despite help from Swedish pop guru Max Martin, their debut sounds like a scientific combination of every self-affirming teen-girl album of the past few years. The lead single, "4ever," puts the Donnas on Kelly Clarkson's arena-pop regimen, with a huge, punky chorus that invites that special someone home for a night of untold pleasures. Unfortunately, the song's jagged riffs and lascivious come-ons prove the exception, since The Secret Life of the Veronicas is overrun with bland, airbrushed introspection like "Mother Mother" and "Nobody Wins." The nadir might be the goopy, spineless ballad "Speechless." Forget boys -- these young ladies seem more interested in attracting soccer moms.
