Even on his sloshed Jimmy Buffett duet from last year, "It's 5 O'Clock Somewhere," Jackson exudes a warm, fatherly vibe. Restraint is this fifteen-year veteran's greatest gift as a vocalist -- and as a personality, too. It's perhaps too much on display on What I Do, a solid disc that lacks some of the emotional punch of 2002's Drive. On the lonesome-heart ballad "Monday Morning Church," his pride is clearly wounded, but he'd rather not show you the scars.
