Abstract Brooklyn noise punks black Dice use conventional instruments unconventionally: keyboards made to sound like drains unclogging, drums played on the rim, guitars strummed in seemingly aimless fashion. Like Sonic Youth reincarnated in Williamsburg, Black Dice evoke sublime psychological realms by making a racket. The synth honks of "Treetops" resemble the music of a New York traffic jam, yet there is a languid feeling under the squawking. Comforts is resolutely urban -- a bit like looking up from a dirty street to watch clouds drunkenly reeling in the sky.
