If AC and DC had a baby, Andrew Stockdale of Wolfmother would be their rock & roll problem child. Cosmic Egg is wilder, earthier and freakier than his band's 2006 debut — he has recruited a new crew of hairy backup henchmen, but he's still chasing his Seventies blue-denim obsessions with no shame. "Sundial" is a doomy stomp with a Tony Iommi guitar grind, but "In the Castle" is the epic, with Stockdale hitting Valhalla-scale high notes, wailing, "Would you like to walk into the kingdoms of the sun?" There isn't a boring moment — when's the last time you could say that about an album with Cosmic in the title?
