On 2001's "Satellite," these Christian groove-metalers delivered razor-sharp guitars for listeners who might otherwise have been turned off by frontman Sonny Sandoval's proselytizing rhymes. On Payable on Death, that tension has slackened. Bloated riffs churn over bludgeoning beats while Sandoval experiments with more soulful melodies ("Will You") and reggae-lite toasting ("Change the World"). Ultimately, the inspirational message ("You can change the world") gets lost in uninspired rhymes ("Positive come around/Impact the sounds").
