With the recent Stooges reunion, 62-year-old Iggy Pop proved that old guys can still be punk-rock bone-crushers. This bizarre foray into French jazz, Dixieland swing and lite Euro-trashy electro (inspired by nihilist-chic novelist Michel Houellebecq) proves they can also be insane. Yet despite some uproariously bad crooning (in both French and English), this isn't always as terrible as it is crazy. Iggy's licentious grumble on "Les Feuilles Mortes" recalls Serge Gainsbourg, and when he sings "It's party time/I got the slime" over a synth slither, you can hear the beautifully gross, classic Ig peeking out from behind the baguette.
