Two solo records, a drug arrest, a rehab stint and a Phish reunion: It's been a busy couple of years for Trey Anastasio. His new disc follows his Miles Davis-influenced fusion blowout, The Horseshoe Curve, and at best this 29-minute piece for orchestra, guitar and vocals also recalls Davis — specifically the trumpeter's lyrical Sketches of Spain. It's refreshing to hear Anastasio lay back with the arrangements, which also echo the American swagger of Aaron Copland and John Williams. It's all touchingly introspective, if only occasionally inspirational — another facet of an impressive, restless dude.
