Prince Paul, hip-hop's nuttiest professor, hits new highs with his latest project: MC Paul Barman, a nice Jewish boy from Ridgewood, New Jersey, whose six-song debut EP, It's Very Stimulating, is funnier than all seven Police Academy movies combined. Brown graduate Barman has the whiniest, geekiest flow in hip-hop, as well as a borscht-belt comic spritz that's more Mel Brooks than Melle Mel. He rhymes jimbrowski with Krzysztof Kieslowski, he name-checks From the Mixed-Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler, he backlashes your booty like Susan Faludi, and he lets a mystery gas out of his blistery ass in history class. Even his raunchy sex boasts are tongue-twisting brilliance: "I removed her sanitary napkin with my teeth/And there was a planetary backspin underneath." Thanks to Prince Paul, the music is nearly as funny as the vocals, and Eminem should be real jealous. The only problem with It's Very Stimulating is that it's over too soon: More, please. (RS 835)
