After wanking around on a few experimental releases, Sweden's Meshuggah have returned to a tighter sound: grinding eight—strings, quick—change time signatures and the occasional drum—guitar lockstep capable of scraping your brain out of your skull. On highlights like "Bleed," all those elements blend together into one mammoth percussive instrument. Like any good thinking—man's metal band, Meshuggah have found a way to evolve and stay primal at the same time.
