Most new power-pop bands are really perfect-pop bands that don't remember the garage-rock dirt on Badfinger's No Dice. The Bigger Lovers, from Philadelphia, whip good grit into Honey, pitting boys'-choir voices against sharks'-teeth twang in "Half Richard's" and "Ivy Grows." Closest historical precedent: the 1980s Dixie shing-aling of Let's Active and the dB's.
