The American analog set are a quartet from Fort Worth, Texas, that loves the warmth of vintage equipment and the blissful lull of playing melodies with mantralike repetition. On their second album, From Our Living Room to Yours, they weave an evocative blend of psychedelic melancholia from simple ingredients humming Farfisa organ, sparse reverbed guitar, minimal drums and chorusless lyrics delivered lullaby-style by vocalist Andrew Kenny. There are also some nice atmospheric touches: "Using the Hope Diamond as a Doorstop" closes with the sound of distant exploding fireworks; the suite "Two Way Diamond" (I and II) is graced with the whirring of Fort Worth crickets and a backing track of croaking bullfrogs. The effect is of a hazy summer dusk spent on a screened-in porch cozy, but quietly compelling. (RS 767)
