You probably already know "girlfriend," Avril Lavigne's hypercatchy, giant-sounding "Hey Mickey" tribute. Guess what? The rest of her third album does not venture into death metal, industrial house or gypsy swing. Like most everything she's done, The Best Damn Thing is big, big, big, with teen punk and ballads getting shots of pop steroids -- as well as big doses of her usual sass, anger and vulnerability. There are few surprises here, but The Best Damn Thing is totally fearless about targeting pop radio and rather expert in its execution. Most of the slow songs sag, but "Girlfriend," the smitten "Contagious" and a handful of other uptempos are monster pleasures. Lavigne probably can't get away with this sound for another record, but enjoy the sugar rush while it lasts.

it's rather upsetting how avril managed to become LESS mature with this album. Aren't musician's supposed to grow with their work? She's lost alot of fans, me included. Her stuff used to be more rock, now it's just high pitched pop aimed at people half my age. I was watching her old music videos recently, and you can totally sense the attitude difference. Where in Let Go she was actually a bratty rebellious teen, in The Best Damn Thing, she became someone trying to act like something she was, but in a cooler more socially accepted way. However, that doesn't cut it for me.

i think this video is good. i was reading someone else review saying her songs sound like they should be written when your 15 but if she came out with this as her first album a lot of people wouldn't be listening to her now and if her other 2 ablums followed this one they would be saying she a wanna be punk rocker so either why she would get shit. i think people need to leave her alone she married shes happy so she wants to write happy songs. i liked her then and i like her now i do like her older songs better but shit changes.

The Best Damn thing is the Best of pop punk that you would find at the music stores: This Avril is bossy, rude, and nasty, but all this stuff fits very well in the album. In Addiction, the ballads shows a more sensitive part of the singer.

Let's just hope her acting career takes off. Quik! This album showed that without the origional line up or record company writting staff, Whichever it may have been. That not only a pretty face and a cute smile will sell records. No matter how much paid publicity you throw at it.

Avril Livigne is a poser. Her music sucks and i wish she'd go back to canada so i never have to hear her annoying whiney voice on the radio. Plus she's ugly and has snaggle tooth

there is only 10 things that suck more than Avril.
1- getting your dick caught in your zipper.
2- running out of pot on april 20th
3- her husband's band
4- everyone (except timberlake) in n sync
5- "the verve" breaking up after there first album
6- movie sequels
7- losing electricity during thunderstorms
8- George Bush
9- the useless time you spend listening to your girlfriend talk about fasion or whatever bullshit she's saying
10- being anal probed

This album is a perfect continuation of Avril's plan. She's trying to create something unlike anything that's ever existed before in the entire history of humanity by creating something that's been done so many times before that there's nothing original about it whatsoever. To Avril, the pimped-out hot rod of pop culture was already pointed at a cliff before she climbed in the driver's seat -- she's just holding the wheel straight and hitting the gas.

I see everyone elses review, and i wonder: why can't you all just take the new Avril for what she is? Forget about the past. From "Girlfriend" to "Contagious" to "I can do better", I thouroughly enjoyed this album. But I feel that Avril has failed with "Innocence" and "When you're gone", while "Keep holding on" was just average. The new Avril is fun, upbeat and on the after-burner, and it's blatantly obvious that her next album will not reflect this one. Enjoy it while it lasts. I certainly am!!!Stop complaining about wanting the old avril back, and start enjoying the new one!!
