For her fourth record, the nineteen-year-old Duff set out to make an adult dance-pop record, with surprisingly successful results. “You’re not the person that I once knew,” she sings on “Stranger,” presumably speaking to her ex, Joel Madden of Good Charlotte. “Did I ever do anything that cruel to you?” The best dig is on “Danger,” where she ridicules the advances of an older man with the following put-down: “Were you born in ’74?”
