The eleventh album from these gentle Canadians is long on winsome tunes, acoustic grooves and modest keyboard, etc., adornments. Some of the darker cuts are also intriguing, but tunes like “Brand New World” are sleepier than a ten-year-old on four Tylenol PMs, and stuff like “Spiral Down” sounds like duller-than-average coffeehouse fare. And even when the Junkies rock out a little, as on “Cutting Board Blues,” they’re pretty bland.
