"The biggest midget in the game" isn't a boast one soon forgets -- especially when it's punctuated seconds later by a nasty "burp in your face." Meet Lady Sovereign, whose frenetic flow and Eminem-like sass have already won the diminutive twenty-year-old a dedicated following in her native U.K. Despite the sponsorship of label boss Jay-Z, Sov doesn't have much in common with most stateside rappers. Her voice -- which alternates between a toddler's whine and an elderly croak -- ensures that her strongest songs have a gloss of novelty, from the playfully rowdy "Random" ("Everybody get random!" she urges, before funning on American accents) to the fits-and-starts wordplay of "A Little Bit of Shhh." Despite some uneven striving-for-maturity moments (the fluffy nostalgia of "Those Were the Days"), Sov's at her best when she doesn't take herself too seriously, as on the wickedly self-deprecatory "Love Me or Hate Me."

This is inventive hip-hop, with fresh beats and an even fresher voice. I've been listening to this chick for a bit, and she keeps getting better. If you're ready to hear blistering delivery teamed with lyrics that go beyond bling, this is a good bet. This is the best hip-hop for me since Fort Minor dropped.

whatever...there is always bound to be at least one hater who makes their opinion public. What's the point of bashing an artist in an album review section? we don't care what you think about her personally...it's supposed to be an album review you retard!

anyway! I'll rate "Public Warning" a 4 out of 5 stars because...well, lets face it...no one out there is perfect...and there are a couple of tracks on the CD that I could have gone without hearing. However, for the most part it's a pretty solid full-length. From light-hearted tracks where she pokes fun at herself and others to some songs with some real meaning.

If you don't like female MC's then obviously you wont like her...but if you're up for listening to something NEW, yes there's something fresh about her work, then check out the album. And please disregard any comments you have heard that link to her to the likes of a female version of Eminem...that is complete fuckin' rubbish. Great lyrics, great production work...solid tracks...a force to be reckoned with...definitely.

cheers,
-Sean

Oh come on, this little wannabe rapper sucks...on Blender magazine she tried to start something with Fergie by saying that Fegie was not a real singer, and that she would laugh in her face! Well I hate to break it to you honey, but you are the same thing as Fergie, so stop pretending to be "original". You are just a cheaper knockoff of the girl who dances in the Missy Elliot videos. Sorry, but this CD sucks...more than Clay Aiken's new one!!
