The "good news" today is that median family incomes are outpacing inflation for the first time in several years. The not so "good" part about it is that the income rise comes from American's taking on 2nd and 3rd jobs just to pay the bills.
From the New York Times:
The rise had little to do with bigger paychecks — in fact, both men and women earned less in 2005 than 2004. Rather, census officials said, more family members were taking jobs to make ends meet, and some people made more money from investments and other sources beyond wages.
