The Truth About Voter Fraud

As we've reported at Rolling Stone, over the past few years Republicans in more than a dozen states have passed laws making it harder for voters -- in practice, overwhelmingly Democratic voters -- to cast ballots in elections. They say the new laws are needed to combat rampant voter fraud.

The problem with this refrain is that voter fraud is not rampant; in fact, it's virtually nonexistent. When investigators follow up on fraud claims, they almost always come up empty.
