Secretary of State Condi Rice flew into Baghdad yesterday for a "surprise" visit. It has to be a surprise, because if they'd announced it, at least 83,000 Iraqis would try to kill her. I say she flew in, but not quite: her plane had to circle the airport for half an hour because the airport was under attack, taking mortar fire. Later, speaking at a dinner with President Jalal Talabani — that would be, president of the Green Zone — power failed and the lights went out on Rice, who had to deliver her talk in the dark.
Perfect parable for the administration's criminal misadventure in Iraq. And now it's lights out.
