It's easy to enjoy Larry Craig's fall from grace — the tawdry foot tapping, the naked hypocrisy — but there's some part of me that feels deeply sorry for this lonely conflicted man, an effective Senator at the pinnacle of Idahoan power, whose inability to be honest with himself led him into anonymous temptation in public restrooms.
The writing on the bathroom wall seems to say that Craig's political career is over. To me, that's a shame. Why does his kinky sexual behavior have anything to do with his Senatorial decision making?
And it seems shameful to me too that so many progressive blogs are gleefully whipping up the right's homophobia to help topple Craig. Aren't you the same people who thought it ridiculous that people called on Bill Clinton to resign over his oral sexcapades in the Oval Office. Yes it's grosser, I suppose, that Craig liked to get off in the men's room. But is locale that important?
Here's hoping Craig sticks this out, and gets some much needed therapy.
