Move Over Whitey

Bowing to demographic reality, Democrats are rethinking the wisdom of having two of the whitest states in the union market test the party's presidential picks.

This weekend, Democrats will start the ball rolling on a process that should sandwich a Southern or Western state in between the Iowa caucuses and the New Hampshire primary.

Why? Because blacks make up 20 percent of the party's primary voters. Hispanics make up ten percent. But as the LA Times notes: "whites cast nearly 95% of the vote in the last New Hampshire Democratic primary . . . And the Iowa caucuses are so overwhelmingly white that polls in 2004 didn't even ask the race of attendees."

Nice.
