Missing You Already
I gotta confess: I've always had a soft spot for Scotty McClellan. Blessed with none of the intellectual dexterity or unctuous eloquence of his predecessor, Ari Fleischer, Scotty was a terrible liar, forced on a daily basis to prevaricate before journalists who came to take pleasure in punishing him personally for the sins of the Bush administration. His resignation speech is almost heartbreaking, pure Stockholm Syndrome, with Scotty thanking all the "really good people" he had the pleasure of serving.
And then there was Bush -- "the decider" -- kindly sticking to the "resignation" cover story: "It's going to be hard to replace Scott. But nevertheless, he's made the decision, and I accept it." A final transparent lie, and then Scotty was gone. Let's hope he didn't step in gum on the way out.

Trent Lott's $700 Million Stinker
If you thought Alaska's bridge to nowhere was some tasty pork, check out Trent Lott's $700 million earmark to move Mississippi's coastal railroad line inland -- to clear coastal property for Vegas-style casinos. And where will you find this earmark? Tucked into an emergency defense spending bill, of course.

We're Number One!
In Independent Online Edition >carbon dioxide emissions! Oy.2004 -- the latest year to be studied -- was our worst ever. We're now more than fifty percent over the 1990 levels that we should have been aiming for if we'd ever signed Kyoto.

Bush Knows Best?
In his press conference this morning Bush told the Army's anti-Rumsfeld contingent, You're not the boss of me:"I hear the voices. And I read the front page. And I know the speculation. But I'm the decider, and I decide what is best. And what's best is for Don Rumsfeld to remain as the secretary of defense."
(What's Rummy's take? He took to the AM airwaves, telling Rush: "This, too, will pass."

How We Love Dear Leader
Prosperous and happy "Katrina Kids" singing propaganda odes to FEMA at the White House? A little Pyonyang flava in the Rose Garden! Kim Jong Il would so totally approve:"Our country's stood beside us
People have sent us aid.
Katrina could not stop us, our hopes will never fade.
Congress, Bush and FEMA
People across our land
Together have come to rebuild us and we join them hand-in-hand!"
