Move Over Ethanol, Goodbye Yucca Mountain

Just as the early Iowa caucus has created a national political obsession with that faux green fuel ethanol — which requires as much fossil fuel to create as it produces in energy — the new prominence of Nevada in the Democratic nominating process may well turn Yucca Mountain, the nation's long-proposed nuclear waste repository, into a national NIMBYfest.

Honestly, it does seem like a terrible idea to store nuclear waste 100 miles from one of the fastest sprawling metro regions in the U.S., but honesty doesn't enter into the political pandering equation. If you're a Dem with presidential aspirations, this Hill article suggests, you're on the anti-"Yucca Mountain bandwagon."
