On last night's Daily Show, Jon Stewart batted around the question of the hour: Why won't Newt Gingrich quit already? Going into Tuesday night's GOP primary contests, it was pretty clear Gingrich needed a good showing in Mississippi and Alabama, since if the "southern" candidate couldn't compete in the South, where could he compete? Well, Newt was left eating Rick Santorum's dust in both states. So, time to bow to political reality -- and pressure from, oh, virtually the entire Republican Party, and get the hell out of the race, right? Give Santorum a clear shot at Romney? Nope. Newt's not going nowhere, nohow – leaving Stewart to wonder, "Is Newt's campaign some kind of Joaquin Phoenix performance art?" Watch the clip:
