Rock & Roll Refugees: 10 People Who Escaped the Music Industry
NAME: Beth Patterson
FORMER JOB: Attorney, Elektra Records. "I got laid off in the Time Warner-AOL merger in 2000. It was kind of a shock. I had never been laid off before. My husband, who'd worked in the corporate world for many, many years, said, 'I know it's painful now, but you're going to look back and this is going to be the best thing that ever happened to you. It's going to take your golden handcuffs off.' I said, 'Yeah, right.' "
CURRENT JOB: Grief and bereavement counselor for hospice patients and families, and attorney for Colorado bands. "After 9/11, we moved to Boulder. I graduated from the Naropa Institute with my master's in May 2006. My first client was a band that wanted group therapy! I have a small private practice and about half a dozen therapy clients."
