Rock & Roll Refugees: 10 People Who Escaped the Music Industry

NAME: David Millman
FORMER JOB: Publicist, Giant Records and independent firm. "I started my own PR company in '96. At one point, Warner hired me to handle all their contemporary jazz artists, which was a great account until I got a phone call explaining that my services were no longer needed because they were getting rid of the entire jazz roster."
CURRENT JOB: Managing director for winery Domaine Drouhin Oregon. "In 2001, a friend hired me to do public relations for the winery. It was such an immediate and wonderful breath of fresh air. In 2004, he was leaving the managing director post and asked if I'd be interested in the job. My responsibilities include overseeing day-to-day operations and managing the staff. I live in the middle of a field a half-mile from the winery and I couldn't be happier. A vineyard, by definition, grows each year. Music sales do not!"
