Everyone Stares: The POLICE Inside Out, the documentary about the seminal reggae-rock group directed by drummer STEWART COPELAND, comes out on DVD March 28th. The film, assembled from Copeland's vintage footage from the Police's early days -- featuring band members Copeland, singer STING and guitarist ANDY SUMMERS -- debuted at January's Sundance Film Festival.
Fashion Rocks New York
A slew of recording artists showed up to view the fall 2006 lines by fashion's top designers at New York City's annual Fashion Week, which kicked off February 3rd. Rockers LOU REED, MICHAEL STIPE and MOBY showed up in support of BONO and wife ALI HEWSON's Edun fashion line. LINDSAY LOHAN, SONIC YOUTH's KIM GORDON, KAREN O of the YEAH YEAH YEAHS, DEVENDRA BANHART, DAMON DASH, model (and Mrs. JACK WHITE) KAREN ELSON and former N'SYNCer JC CHASEZ attended events for MARC JACOBS. RUFUS WAINWRIGHT and ASHANTI showed support for funk-glam duo Heatherette (RICHIE RICH and TRAVER RAINS), while FAT JOE, CHRISTINA MILIAN, MYA and RUSSELL SIMMONS took in his wife's KIMORA LEE SIMMONS' Baby Phat collection. JENNIFER LOPEZ, notorious for the green low neckline Versace dress she wore to the 2000 Grammys, viewed the Italian house's new collection, as did HILARY DUFF and JOEL MADDEN of GOOD CHARLOTTE. DESTINY'S CHILD's KELLY ROWLAND attended the Badgley Mischka show, while reconciled rappers JAY-Z and NAS, and Nas' wife KELIS, turned up at the launch of DIDDY's new fragrance, "Unforgivable."
Sonic Youth Remasters Albums
Remastered versions of three SONIC YOUTH albums are due March 14th. The post-punk band's remastered 1982 self-titled debut will feature seven additional live recordings from 1981, as well as an early demo of "I Dreamed a Dream." Also revamped are their 1989 The Whitey Album -- recorded under the alias CICCONE YOUTH -- and co-frontman THURSTON MOORE's only solo album, 1995's Psychic Hearts. Sonic Youth are currently working on a follow-up to 2004's Sonic Nurse for release later this year.
Ghostface Killah Travels Solo
Following WU-TANG CLAN's reunion tour, member GHOSTFACE KILLAH will stay on the road with a thirty-two-date tour supporting his latest solo effort, Fishscale, out March 14th. The trek begins March 5th in Pittsburgh and wraps April 20th in New Haven, Connecticut.
My Morning Jacket Rise Early
MY MORNING JACKET will release rare recordings of tracks off the reverb-rockers' first two albums, The Tennessee Fire and At Dawn, on May 16th. MMJ, who were forced to cancel their winter European tour due to frontman JIM JAMES' pneumonia, are scheduled to play April's Coachella Valley Music Festival in Indio, California, and June's Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival in Manchester, Tennessee. A late spring trek between the two festival stops is currently in the works.
Muse Break Out the Kleenex
British rockers MUSE will release their first album since 2003's Absolution on May 16th. "A Crying Shame" will be the as-yet-untitled album's first single.
Rockers Play Some Golf
COLLECTIVE SOUL, HOOTIE AND THE BLOWFISH and BETTER THAN EZRA will perform at the Second Annual Drive for Show, Rock Fore! Dough Benefit Concert in Augusta, Georgia, on April 4th, the week of the Masters Tournament. The event, hosted by R.E.M. bassist MIKE MILLS, will benefit the First Tee of Augusta, a golf-orientated education program.
California Goes BioWillie
WILLIE NELSON was on hand to launch his brand of eco-friendly biodiesel fuel, BioWillie, for the first time in California on Wednesday. The soy bean-based alternative fuel product is already available in Texas, South Carolina and Georgia.
Britney Endangers Baby?
BRITNEY SPEARS admitted to NBC's Access Hollywood entertainment news program that she made a mistake when driving her car with four-month-old son SEAN PRESTON in her lap this past Tuesday. Spears blamed her irresponsible actions on approaching paparazzi, who took photos of the twenty-four-year-old pop star and her unbelted son. X17, the photo agency that published the shots, denies any forceful altercation prior to taking the photos. The Los Angeles Police Department said it would not press charges against Spears.
Vedder Teams with Slater
PEARL JAM's EDDIE VEDDER will join KELLY SLATER for a two-part segment of the champion surfer's Sirius Satellite Radio show, Kelly Slater's Radio K-OS, February 12th and 19th. The longtime pals will talk politics and surfing -- and play Pearl Jam tracks -- from a remote surfing location in the Pacific.
