This past spring Audioslave made history when they played to a crowd of 50,000 in Havana, Cuba -- the first American band to do so since Billy Joel's last performance there in 1979.
Audioslave will now release the epic May 6th performance at Havana's Anti-Imperialist Plaza on DVD entitled Audioslave Live in Cuba. While both a special and regular edition will be released October 11th, the special edition features seventeen songs from the two-and-a-half-hour show, featuring an acoustic performance of the Soundgarden classic "Black Hole Sun" by frontman Chris Cornell. The DVD set also includes two additional discs of bonus material, including a documentary of the band's trip.
"You can't come here and not feel some nervousness and some shame and some anger at being American," Cornell told Rolling Stone during the Cuba visit about the impeding differences between the two nations. "The experience would be something that I could write about in a song."
Audioslave, who lent their chops this past weekend for the ReAct Now: Music and Relief Hurricane Katrina benefit telethon are working on tracks for a follow-up to their sophomore effort, Out of Exile, which debuted at Number One this May.
The band plans to preview new songs this fall on their thirty-four-date trek across the U.S., beginning September 24th in Bakersfield, California. In addition to the tour, the band will play Shiner Bocktoberfest Music Junket October 15th in Shiner, Texas.
