Backstreet Boys pick single, Ben Folds takes piano on the road

The BACKSTREET BOYS have chosen their first single from their as-yet-untitled album, due in June. The ballad, "Incomplete," is scheduled to hit radio in early April . . . BEN FOLDS will kick off a North American tour May 3rd in Pennsylvania, in support of his new album, Songs For Silverman, due April 26th . . . SNOW PATROL bassist MARK MCCLELLAND has left the band. A replacement has not yet been named . . . OZZY OSBOURNE has resigned with Epic Records and is currently working on material for his new album . . . The DOVES and MERCURY REV will launch a three week North American tour on May 1st in San Francisco, following performances at the Coachella Music and Arts Festival in Indio, California . . .

JA RULE has been sued for $4 million by the same man the rapper plead guilty to punching in an altercation in June of 2003 . . . The FIERY FURNACES are planning a summer release for their upcoming double album, titled Garfield and Singing to Speak Chinese . . . TOMMY LEE will release his solo album Tommyland: The Ride in August. The album features tracks with DERYCK WHIBLEY of SUM 41, GOOD CHARLOTTE's JOEL MADDEN and BACKSTREET BOYS' NICK CARTER . . . GZR, the band led by BLACK SABBATH bassist GEEZER BUTLER will release its new album, Ohmwork, on May 10th . . . OASIS have confirmed the tracklist for their upcoming release Don't Believe the Truth, due in stores May 31st. The album will feature a song entitled "Guess God Thinks I'm Abel," comparing the famous feud between the Gallagher brothers to religious figures Cain and Abel . . .

NELLY will kick off the Sweat/Suit: Up Close and Personal Tour with FAT JOE, T.I. and ST. LUNATICS members MURPHY LEE, ALI, and KYJUAN in Cleveland on March 19th. The tour wraps up May 21st in Las Vegas . . . OASIS will perform their first Los Angeles show in five years at the Hollywood Bowl on September 12th. Like the previously announced east coast dates, this show will feature opening act JET . . . SNOOP DOGG and the GAME will hit the road together performing a string of shows in the Midwest on April 15th in Salt Lake City finishing up April 26th in Columbus, Ohio . . . The KILLS will kick-off their North American tour in support of their second album No Wow with two shows in Austin on March 16th and 17th . . .

WILCO, JEWEL, ALISON KRAUSS and UNION STATION and KATHLEEN EDWARDS are among the artists performing at the thirty-second annual Telluride Bluegrass Festival taking place June 16-19 in Telluride, Colorado . . . RYAN ADAMS & The CARDINALS will kick off the Cold Roses Tour in Northampton, Massachusetts on April 27th. The trek will precede the release of Cold Roses on May 3rd . . . The DONNAS, DIDO, VANESSA CARLTON and LIZ PHAIR are some of the artists featured on Charmed: The Book of Shadows, the soundtrack for the WB show Charmed due in stores April 19th . . . REEL BIG FISH will release their new CD We're Not Happy 'Til You're Not Happy on April 5th featuring a cover of TRACY CHAPMAN'S 1988 hit "Talkin' Bout a Revolution" . . .

KANYE WEST, ALICIA KEYS, DESTINY'S CHILD, ARETHA FRANKLIN and JOHN LEGEND are among the performers set for the Essence Music Festival in New Orleans, July 1-3 . . . JACK JOHNSON will launch his eco-friendly summer tour in Houston on August 1st. The thirty-two-date trek wraps up in Ontario on September 17th. Johnson's tour busses will run on Bio-diesel fuel and $1 from each ticket sold will go to offset the carbon dioxide emissions produced by fans traveling to the show . . . The Vans Warped Tour -- featuring the OFFSPRING, MY CHEMICAL ROMANCE and the EXPLOSION -- will hit the road June 18th in Columbus, Ohio. The forty-plus-date roving festival will close August 15th in Northampton, Massachusetts . . .

According to his publicist, BILLY JOEL has entered an undisclosed rehabilitation facility for treatment of alcohol abuse . . . The THRILLS guitarist DANIEL RYAN had his laptop stolen from a car in Dublin on March 11th. The Irish band is offering a reward for the laptop, which they said contained new material . . . The COCTEAU TWINS reunion performance at the Coachella Music and Arts Festival on April 30th has been canceled. The trio's vocalist ELIZABETH FRASER has declined to participate due to personal reasons . . .R&B singer LYN COLLINS, 56, best known for her vocal contribution to the 1988 Rob Base and DJ E-Z Rock song "It Takes Two," died March 13th of cardiac arrhythmia. Collins was dubbed the "female preacher" by JAMES BROWN when she joined his traveling show in 1970 . . . ED HARCOURT will kick off his U.S. Residency Tour at the South by Southwest Festival in Austin, Texas on March 19th, wrapping April 27th in New York City . . .

BONO and his wife, Ali Hewson, have launched a new clothing line, Edun ("nude" spelled backward). As part of the U2 frontman's ongoing campaign to improve economic conditions in the third world, the organic casual duds will be manufactured in countries ranging from Peru to Tanzania . . . SWITCHFOOT will debut their Bro-Am Surf Contest on May 14th in Encinitas, California. The competition will benefit Care House Kids, which helps homeless teens in the rockers' hometown of San Diego . . . The CURE will reissue three early albums, Seventeen Seconds, Faith and Pornography, on April 26th. The re-mastered CDs will feature studio demos and live versions of the tracks . . . MISSY ELLIOTT has bumped the release of her follow-up to 2003's This Is Not a Test! to June 28th. The rapper is still in the studio recording . . .

The FBI has closed its investigation of the 1997 murder of New York rap legend NOTORIOUS B.I.G. after dismissing the lead that the rapper was killed by a Los Angeles police officer working for rap mogul Suge Knight due to a lack of evidence . . . The SHINS will launch a spring tour April 11th in Minneapolis. The three-week trek wraps April 30th in Asheville, North Carolina . . . The CHARLATANS will release The Charlatans -- Live At Last, a DVD filmed at London's Brixton Academy, on April 11th . . . MICHAEL FRANTI is in the studio working on the follow-up to 2004's acoustic collection Songs From the Front Porch. CHRIS BLACKWELL is executive producing the album, which is due in the fall . . . MOLLY HATCHET'S lead singer DANNY JOE BROWN, 54, died March 10th. He had been recovering from a 1998 stroke . . .
