Spector took two cracks at recording "Chapel," but the Ronettes' and Crystals' versions left the producer flat, so Leiber and Stoller bought the rights to the song for New Orleans novices the Dixie Cups. Sisters Rosa Lee and Barbara Ann Hawkins and cousin Joan Marie Johnson's hopeful harmonies were just what the nuptial ditty called for.
