Hot Metal: Atreyu

Being the hottest metal band in the world means never having to apologize for your influences. "We take it all from the Scorpions," insists Atreyu frontman Alex Varkatzas, and he's not entirely kidding, right down to the hot porn chick in the band's latest video, "Right Side of the Bed." But this isn't Darkness-style irony rock. Varkatzas calls his band's sound "death hair metal." Which means that when Atreyu are opening for the likes of Black Sabbath at this summer's Ozzfest, they can still cover Bon Jovi's "You Give Love a Bad Name" and not take shit for it. "That's paying tribute," Varkatzas says, "and any opportunity to butcher a modern classic I'll take. It's pretty rad."
