The majority of the songs on Unity feature peace and harmony as a theme, and most of the tracks are collaborations. Some groupings, like Xzibit and Alice Cooper's "Stand," and Moby and Public Enemy's "MKLFKWR" are a bit peculiar, while others, like Sting and Mariza's "A Thousand Years," try to create a cross-cultural palette, as the artists on the record represent fifteen different nations.
Unity is one of three albums officially tied to the 2004 Summer Games. Harmony and Phos will represent classical and Greek music, respectively. EMI, which is releasing all three records, has pledged a donation of at least $180,000 to Unicef's HIV/AIDS relief efforts in sub-Saharan Africa.
