American electronic men the Crystal Method will release their third album, Legion of Boom, January 13th on V2 Records. Scott Kirkland and Ken Jordan wrote the effort in their Los Angeles studio over the last year.
No stranger to working with collaborators -- 2001's Tweekend featured Rage Against the Machine/Audioslave guitarist Tom Morello and Stone Temple Pilots frontman Scott Weiland -- the duo brought in another diversified cast for Boom. Ex-Limp Bizkit guitarist Wes Borland appears on "Weapons of Mass Distortion," "Broken Glass" and first single "Born too Slow."
"We had a chance to work with Wes on the Charlie's Angels soundtrack," Kirkland says. "He just came up to the studio, we played him some things and it went from there."
Appearing on "Born Too Slow" is John Garcia, vocalist for Josh Homme's pre-Queens of the Stone Age outfit, Kyuss. "I could hear a Judas Priest-type guitar on 'Born Too Slow,'" Kirkland says, "and when somebody brought up John Garcia, it was like, 'Yeah! Let's go for it.'"
Other guests on the record include recent Basement Jaxx associate Lisa Kekaula of Los Angeles band the Bellrays, San Francisco's Hanifah, and beatbox master Rahzel formerly of the Roots.
The Crystal Method will DJ at New York's Centro-fly October 25th and are planning to tour early next year. "We're looking at all kinds of options," Kirkland says, "whether it's going out with a DJ or with different bands like the Rapture, Black Eyed Peas. Nothing's finalized, but we're hoping to put together a great tour."
