On October 10th, Gov't Mule will commence their Rebirth of the Mule Tour with new bassist Andy Hess in tow. For the Mule, it will be the first tour with a full-time bassist since Allen Woody died of a heart ailment in August 2000.
After Woody's death, Mule frontman Warren Haynes, drummer Matt Abts and keyboardist Danny Louis played and recorded with a rotating collective, Hess among them, filling in on four-string duty. One tribute show to Woody, featuring Jason Newsted, Les Claypool and Mike Gordon among the bassists, will be released on CD and DVD on October 7th as The Deepest End.
"We've been fortunate to have many amazing bass players tour and record with us," Haynes said. "When we played with Andy Hess, it felt like a band."
Before beginning the tour, Gov't Mule will give the lineup a test run with an October 8th appearance on Late Night With Conan O'Brien.
Chris Robinson and New Earth Mud have been tapped as openers.
